VMware Explore US 2022

VMware Explore – Confessions of a First-Time Speaker

2022 felt like a rollercoaster to me, in part due to an unexpected event. On August 30, in a big room from Moscone West, San Francisco, I presented my first session in a VMware Explore / VMworld conference: “Accelerate Time to Business Value and Achieve Faster Deployment with Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Deployer”, #MCLB1601US.This was an intense experience, so I feel that telling the story of a first-time presenter at Explore will be something interesting to my readers.

Wow! VMware Explore US

Close to the end of April 2022, answering an internal Lenovo call, I got the opportunity to submit a proposal for a VMware Explore session. Beginning of May, I submitted my proposal: a title no longer then 75 characters and a description no longer than 850 characters. I knew getting a session accepted is hard, so I got close to no hope of moving on to the next phase.

The morning of June 23 came with a big surprise:

Dear Constantin,
Congratulations! We are happy to announce that your session(s) has/have been accepted for VMware Explore 2022 US taking place at Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, CA from August 29 – September 1st, 2022.

VMworld 2020

VMworld 2020 – Which Sessions to Attend?

VMworld 2020 is just around the corner. In this COVID-19 world everything moved online and so does VMworld. Make sure to register to VMworld 2020 and reserve in your calendars the period 29th September to 1st October.

This year, VMware offers two types of access to VMworld:

  • General Pass – includes access to 500+ on-demand VMworld sessions – free of charge
  • Premier Pass – everything General Pass has plus access to roundtables, limited capacity sessions, birds of a feather (informal discussions), hand-on-labs, 1:1 expert consultations  – priced at $299

Few days ago, VMware made available the scheduler, so I will base this article on my selection of VMworld sessions, in no particular order. I have a free General Pass, so I will not touch anything reserved to Premier Pass. 14 sessions spread across 3 days, covering topics as private and public cloud, networking and security, containers, hyper-converged infrastructure, and career.

AWSome Day 2017 Romania

AWSome Day 2017 in Romania

November is a good month for Amazon Web Services lovers from Romania: Bittnet and AWS are hosting not one, but two editions of AWSome Day! AWSome Day is a free introductory one-day event, based on the official AWS Technical Essentials course. Bittnet is the only authorized AWS Training Partner in Romania, and also holds AWS Consulting Partner status.

This is the third consecutive year in which Romanian users can attend this type of event. I have attended the first edition held at Hotel Novotel in Bucharest in October 2015 and it was a great event. Excellent content for an AWS introduction and a great networking opportunity.

Cloud Events for November 2017

November is a full month for cloud enthusiasts, with great cloud events both in United States and Europe, including one of the most important IT conference of the year (in my opinion, of course), which is AWS re:Invent.

AWS re:Invent 2017

Las Vegas, Nevada, will host this month the biggest AWS event of the year, AWS re:Invent 2017. Between 27 November and 1 December, you can attend over 1,000 breakout sessions, hackathons, bootcamps, labs, and workshops. Tickets are nearly sold out, hurry to secure your place.

If you can’t attend in person, you can still register for the live streaming of the keynotes. You can watch both keynotes (Andy Jassy, CEO, Amazon Web Services, and Werner Vogels, CTO, Amazon.com) and  Tuesday Night Live featuring Peter DeSantis, VP, AWS Global Infrastructure.

Google Cloud OnBoard Bucharest

Google Cloud OnBoard – Bucharest

Launched end of last year in Tokyo, Google Cloud OnBoard is a series of conferences which already brought together more than 20,000 technology enthusiasts from 49 cities. Bucharest joined it today when around 600 people gathered at JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel.

Talking with some of the participants, it was like Google succeeded to attract talents from all major IT companies from Romania. These conferences are not only about presenting someone’s vision and product, it’s also about networking. I met with friends and colleagues, I made new acquaintances, so it was a good day. My knowledge on Google Cloud Platform is extremely limited, so I had a lot to learn today.

Pluralsight Live 2017

PluralsightI know everyone is still gaining strength after VMworld US and rooting for VMworld Europe, but here is another conference which came to my attention. When I get asked about online training on VMware and AWS, Pluralsight is one of my main choices. Great trainers, great content, good platform (both desktop and mobile), not too pricey.

Pluralsight Live 2017 will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, between 19 and 21 September. Pluralsight made available their “Top 10 Reasons”, I will not go that route. I will just list the speakers that caught my attention, there is little merit in saying why you should listen to them:

  • Michelle Obama, former First Lady
  • Joel Spolsky, CEO @Stack Overflow
  • Tim Campos, Founder of Pulsra and former CIO @Facebook
  • Steve Young, co-founder @HGCC and former NFL MVP
  • Hadi Partovi, CEO @Code.org
  • Scott Guthrie, EVP @Microsoft Cloud
  • Brad Rencher, EVP @Adobe
