VMUG Romania February 2018

VMUG Romania Meeting February 2018

Together with Razvan Ionescu, I hosted last Friday the first VMUG Romania meeting of 2018. This time we returned to our hosts from Impact Hub, but in their new and modern home from Timpuri Noi building.

Despite our efforts on advertising the event, we took a hit for the number of participants. We may had issues due to another event ran same end of the week by HPE and VMware in Brasov.

However, we were happy to have with us our friends from NetApp and Logicom, which sponsored the event.

VMware vSphere 6.5 Host Resources Deep Dive

Free e-book: VMware vSphere 6.5 Host Resources Deep Dive

I have to admit, this post comes earlier than planned. I am still reading “VMware vSphere 6.5 Host Resources Deep Dive” by Frank Denneman and Niels Hagoort. See above, third part of the book (“Storage Resources”), chapter 14 (“Non-volatile Memory Architecture”), page 331. Printed version, no search function available yet.

Why do I write this now? Because Rubrik and VMUG have an early Christmas gift for us. After Rubrik gave away  at VMworld 2000 free copies of the printed version of “VMware vSphere 6.5 Host Resources Deep Dive”, they partnered with VMUG and decided to further support the community by providing a free PDF version of the book. If you are in a rush, go to Rubrik site and download the e-book. If you prefer the printed version, sorry, but you will have to pay for it @Amazon.

VMUG Romania Survey

VMUG Romania Survey

Together with Razvan Ionescu and Mihai Huica, I try to find ways to make VMUG Romania meetings more attractive.

For now, we try to gather more details about our audience and about the needs of all the participants. We came out with a survey: we want to know what they use in their day-to-day activities and about which topics they want to learn about. We are also interested to find few logistics details (like on which part of Bucharest is preferred or when is the best time to run the meetings).

To keep things short, this is an invite for all VMware users from Romania to tell us what they think we can improve at VMUG Romania. Nothing to worry, it’s an anonymous survey, hosted by Google, we don’t collect any personal data.

If you want to find more details about our meetings, you can read a report on the latest VMUG Romania meeting.

VMUG Romania

VMUG Romania Meeting Report

VMUG Romania held today the third meeting of the year (a record in itself) in the north part of Bucharest, practically in the area with the highest concentration of IT workers. The main meeting sponsor, Orange, hosted us in one of its modern headquarters.

As usual, Razvan Ionescu and Mihai Huica (the two VMUG Romania co-leaders) welcomed the participants and took care of all the logistics.

Virtual VMUG EMEA

VMUGYou are all used with VMUG, but this time you will not be required to travel to attend the event! Virtual VMUG EMEA is a full day virtual event, organized by VMUG on 28 September 2017, 10:00 to 16:00 CET.

Joe Baguley, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for EMEA, VMware, will start the day with the keynote. I have seen Joe in few occasions, both as a keynote speaker and in some private meetings, I always had something to learn. So yes, looking forward for this event!

We will have access to some hands-on labs throughout the day. vSphere, VMware Cloud on AWS, NSX, and vSAN will be the main actors of the labs.

Now, going to the sessions, I can see some great presentations on the agenda. I can recognize some of them from VMworld event, but in case you missed them, it’s always warmer to see the action live instead of a YouTube recording. You can find the detailed agenda here.

Number of local communities is always increasing, currently being around 230, ranging from 1 member in Mumbai chapter to over 5000 for Boston VMUG.

Second point of interest is around VMUG Advantage, a subscription program with some great offers:
