On 12 February 2019, VMUG Romania held its first meeting of this year in one of the best location we have seen so far: Journey Pub in Bucharest. More than 50 persons attended the full-day event. Two records here, one for the number of participants and the other for the event duration. Dell EMC and Bitdefender were the sponsors of this meeting.
My fellow leaders made me the honor of opening the meeting. After my short introduction, Razvan Ionescu made the announcement of the year in my opinion: the keynote speaker for VMUG Romania next meeting on 11 June 2019 will be Joe Baguley, VP and CTO VMware EMEA. Joe is an inspiring speaker, I’m confident we will have a lot to learn from him. You can watch Joe in few episodes of VMware Carpool Tech Talk. Mihai Huica then introduced a new tool we used for gathering feedback from audience.
Cristian Stan from our sponsor Dell EMC was the first presenter of the session. Cristian delivered us a technical overview on VxRail appliances.
Next on stage was Victor Homocea from NTT Data with the second part from his vSAN trilogy. Check the October meeting report for Vic’s first presentation. This time Victor covered recurrent checks, upgrades, data balance and the new HTML5 user interface.
After a networking break, we returned with a presentation of our second sponsor, Bitdefender. Gabriel Mazarache talked to us about security automation, performance, and response across multiple VMware clouds.
The event continued with another community presentation. Bogdan Mitu, virtualization engineer at Adobe, presented us about day 2 operations on vRealize Operations Manager: components, configuration files, configuration scripts, log files, and troubleshooting.
After the lunch, Cristian Radu from VMware brought us to the NSX world: Using virtualization to secure the applications.
Next was Corneliu Lefter from Neverfail with a real life scenario: “Migrating ESXi hosts between vCenters with powered on VMs”.
For last presentation of the meting, Mihai Huica took the stage and presented us the new CLI solution from VMware: DCLI (datacenter command-line interface).
The event finished with a craft beer tasting session, well received by everybody 🙂
In the end, I invite the Romanian VMware community to save this date into their calendars: 11 June 2019 next VMUG Romania meeting, featuring Joe Baguley (VMware CTO EMEA) as keynote speaker.
