VMUG Romania October Meeting Report

Better late than never, so here it is the report for VMUG Romania latest meeting. On 16th October, 35 guests attended the last VMUG Romania meeting of the year. We held our meeting in the beautiful offices of our sponsor, Veeam. This meeting we added a new feature to our meeting: at the request of few remote colleagues, we streamed live on Facebook almost all the presentations. This allowed me to embed the videos into this article, so double win! We received cool feedback, so for next sessions we will have some sort of live streaming for sure.

I had the honor to present in the first slot of the meeting. As this year is the first year when Romania has not only one, but 2 vExperts, I thought this is a good opportunity to spread the word about vExpert program into the community. I talked about vExpert program, about the benefits of joining it and I showed the audience my path to vExpert. You can watch below my presentation in Romanian.

Next on stage was a first-time speaker for VMUG Romania, Victor Homocea from NTT Data with a presentation about vSAN in real life. We found out about some architectural challenges that Victor met and the way he overcame them, best practices and some recommendations based on real life environment experience.

We then continued with the session of the sponsor. Cornel Popescu from Veeam talked to us about Veeam Availability Orchestrator. This is a new product which seems to be the focus of Veeam Romania lately (as they presented same product during the VMware Romania vForum). The Orchestrator is a tool for… orchestrating the creation, documentation and test of disaster recovery scenarios.

Our own master of ceremonies, Razvan Ionescu from VMUG Romania, continued the session with a presentation about building custom vSphere images using PowerCLI. Razvan talked briefly about PowerCLI and PowerCLI modules, about vSphere Image Builder, and then finished with a demo where he injected some custom NIC drivers into a standard vSphere image.

Last presentation of the event belonged to Cristian Radu from VMware Romania with updates from VMworld US on End User Computing space. Watch until the end for a cool demo!

We dedicated the last few minutes to the raffle. We had some nice VMware/VMUG branded products for the lucky winners. We then moved to the nearby Vivo restaurant for networking and a late lunch with some of the best burgers in town.

Thanks everyone for support and I hope to see you too in 2019 🙂
