How to Install VCSA 6.5 (VMware vCenter Server Appliance)

In this article I will show you how to install VCSA 6.5 (VMware vCenter Server Appliance).

To start, you need an installation kit of vCenter Server Appliance 6.5. For this article, I will use the VCSA version I downloaded from my VMUG Advantage account (VMware-VCSA-all-6.5.0-5318154.iso).

Note: If you look for VCSA update instructions, check this article: How to Update vCenter Server Appliance to 6.5 Update 1b.

Virtual VMUG EMEA

VMUGYou are all used with VMUG, but this time you will not be required to travel to attend the event! Virtual VMUG EMEA is a full day virtual event, organized by VMUG on 28 September 2017, 10:00 to 16:00 CET.

Joe Baguley, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for EMEA, VMware, will start the day with the keynote. I have seen Joe in few occasions, both as a keynote speaker and in some private meetings, I always had something to learn. So yes, looking forward for this event!

We will have access to some hands-on labs throughout the day. vSphere, VMware Cloud on AWS, NSX, and vSAN will be the main actors of the labs.

Now, going to the sessions, I can see some great presentations on the agenda. I can recognize some of them from VMworld event, but in case you missed them, it’s always warmer to see the action live instead of a YouTube recording. You can find the detailed agenda here.

VMware made available on YouTube the recordings of top 40 sessions from VMworld 2017 US. It’s a hard choice, but I made mine, I highlighted in bold the sessions I liked most. Of course it’s a personal choice, it depends mainly on what your area of interest is (you can easily guess which side I’m attracted too).

Pluralsight Live 2017

PluralsightI know everyone is still gaining strength after VMworld US and rooting for VMworld Europe, but here is another conference which came to my attention. When I get asked about online training on VMware and AWS, Pluralsight is one of my main choices. Great trainers, great content, good platform (both desktop and mobile), not too pricey.

Pluralsight Live 2017 will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, between 19 and 21 September. Pluralsight made available their “Top 10 Reasons”, I will not go that route. I will just list the speakers that caught my attention, there is little merit in saying why you should listen to them:

  • Michelle Obama, former First Lady
  • Joel Spolsky, CEO @Stack Overflow
  • Tim Campos, Founder of Pulsra and former CIO @Facebook
  • Steve Young, co-founder @HGCC and former NFL MVP
  • Hadi Partovi, CEO @Code.org
  • Scott Guthrie, EVP @Microsoft Cloud
  • Brad Rencher, EVP @Adobe
